Belmont University College of Law seeks an experienced, multi-talented individual to direct its law library and serve as a member of the law faculty at an appropriate faculty rank. The successful candidate will have significant professional experience in library administration, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, teaching experience, and demonstrated ability to engage in scholarly pursuits at a high level.
Belmont University College of Law is an ABA fully-approved law school designed to prepare practice-ready graduates for legal positions of all types. The law school has very high bar exam passage and employment rates; over the past two years more than 90% of our graduates passed the bar exam on their first attempt, and 94% of our 2016 graduates were employed 10 months after graduation. The Associate Dean for Information Resources is responsible for the operation, programs, collections, and services of the law library. The Associate Dean works with the Dean of the law school, the faculty, and the university administration to ensure that the law library is in compliance with applicable accreditation standards. As a member of the full-time law faculty, the Associate Dean teaches, engages in scholarship, serves on faculty and university committees, and represents the law school in external activities related to the library and the law school.
Specific job duties include:
Recruits and makes hiring recommendations regarding candidates for library professional staff positions. Evaluates performance of professional staff. Hires candidates for approved support staff positions. Maintains regular communication with library staff and assists staff members in their professional development.
In consultation with the Dean of the law school and the law faculty, plans and implements development of the library’s information resources. Maintains statistical information concerning law library resources and operations. Completes statistical reports as appropriate.
Plans and implements library services and programs, including instructional services and research assistance for faculty, students, and other library patrons. In consultation with the Dean of the law school, determines appropriate hours of library operation.
Teaches academic courses in the law school and serves on faculty and university committees.
Engages in scholarly pursuits such as writing and speaking, and represents the law library and the law school at various external meetings and activities.
Works with university computing services to provide appropriate technological resources for the library’s patrons.

Requirements for this position include:
JD degree from ABA-accredited law school.
MLS/MLIS degree or equivalent from ALA-accredited library school.
Significant experience in management and library administration.

The College of Law is housed in the Randall and Sadie Baskin Center. Opened in 2012, the center includes a state-of-the-art law library. The College of Law is integrated into Belmont's main campus and offers specialties in areas that complement the university's nationally known undergraduate program offerings, including healthcare and entertainment and music business.
