The Staffing Manager, NY Corporate Associates (“Manager”) works closely with the Business Directors for the Corporate and Finance Business Units to allocate assignments to the NY Corporate Associates, continually balancing business needs with individual needs/preferences. In addition the Manager provides strategic advice regarding associate staffing, planning and resource management and collaborates with HR in support of development, training, retention and onboarding initiatives and projects for Associates.
Allocate assignments to both first and second-year NY Corporate Associates – first-year associates would be staffed on matters for Capital Markets, Financial Institutions, M&A, Real Estate, Derivatives, Finance, Financial Restructuring & Insolvency and Project Development and Finance teams and second-year associates would be staffed on matters for teams in either the Corporate Business Unit or the Finance Business Unit.
Continually balance the business needs of the teams with individual needs and preferences of the associates to ensure associates are fully utilized and working efficiently to maximize client service and their own professional development.
Coach associates on effectively managing appropriate workloads including requesting work, requesting feedback, time management, etc.
Develop an in-depth understanding of professional development goals, experiences, strengths and development needs and relevant personal circumstances of NY Corporate Associates.
Work to ensure consistency of experiences and equitable distribution of assignments across the group.
Identify and gain approval from NY Corporate Co-Chairs for cross-staffing as and when needed to the extent work flow dictates.
Negotiate and obtain approval for cross-staffing with the Disputes Business Unit for both first and second-year associates, as appropriate.
Build and maintain strong professional relationships with associates, partners and other lawyers and business services staff.
Meet regularly with assignments partners for the teams in the Corporate and Finance Business Units to understand expected deal flow and anticipated needs of each team.
Facilitate associate integration by ensuring NY Corporate Associates are attending team meetings, CLEs and practice group social events.
Meet regularly with NY Corporate Associates individually and in groups to discuss their work assignments, practice group preferences, and development needs so as to maximize their learning and associate experience at the firm.
Manage all aspects of the process by which the NY Corporate Associates will be placed into specific business units, practice groups and teams.
Collaborate with HR and Business Directors to support professional development, performance feedback and engagement projects and initiatives.
Provide timely recommendations for CLE opportunities for associates.
Work with NY Corporate Co-Chairs, key stakeholders and others on projects and initiatives as assigned.
