The Legal and Business Research Analyst is responsible for law library professional services for attorneys and other persons; coordinating and/or performing reference, research, and other services; performing designated law library duties and project assignments.
Regularly communicates with attorneys and staff in multiple offices and fellow library team members.
Plans law library reference, research, administrative, and other assignments; and confers, when appropriate, with the law library service plans
Coordinates and performs law and other library research services both on-line and manually involving legal and other disciplines, involving: conferring with attorneys to define research needs, developing research strategies, conducting research, and maintaining department standards, assists library users in finding materials; trains users in research techniques; and locates materials from outside libraries; provides both cursory and in depth research assistance
Coordinates and performs library marketing and training services such as departmental presentations, development of pathfinders and user training in manual and electronic resources
Maintains a customer service attitude at all times
Researches law library professional, administrative, and management issues to enhance law library reference, research, and other services, and continuously upgrades knowledge of law library practices, policies, systems, and resources
Performs relief and/or project duties and responsibilities such as assisting in law library office and technical tasks, or substituting for other department staff
Responsible for remaining current on technological and industry law library developments.
Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions
Carries out responsibilities in an honest, ethical, and professional manner
Responsibilities occasionally may require and adjusted work schedule, overtime, evening and/or weekend hours to meet deadlines
The job operates in an office setting and is largely sedentary, requiring the routing use of a computer and other standard office equipment. The ability to open file cabinets, lift files, bend and stand on a stool may also be required
EXPERIENCE SKILLS REQUIRED
Masters in library science with course work in law librarianship, a J.D. degree is preferred
Experience with automated library systems, computer-assisted research, Internet searching, and familiarity with basic software programs are highly desirable
Must be accustomed to working as a team member; have outstanding research and reference project planning and law library service accomplishments; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and demonstrated ability to meet obligations with confidentiality, integrity, and sensitivity
Should have the equivalent of 2-4 years of previous law library professional and supervisory experience with responsibilities for assisting in law library department management and initiating and monitoring attorney-library services and relationships
