The Cardozo Law Library seeks a creative, highly-detailed, and service-orientated librarian who is enthusiastic about library services and leading colleagues and staff in an evolving vision of a library in a dynamic law school.
The Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law is a leader in legal education, located in Manhattan's Greenwich Village. The law school is renowned for its program in intellectual property, which includes the FAME Center for Fashion, Arts, Media and Entertainment Law. This position oversees and will take the lead on delivering the highest quality of service to its patrons. As the leader of the public services team, this position provides professional legal reference service to the Law School and university communities, as well as other patron groups. The position will work with the Associate Dean for Library Services and colleagues inside and outside the library to assess and develop services that respond to initiatives of Cardozo Law.The position will also be part of the instruction team, teaching at least one section of the required Advanced Legal Research course each semester. Additionally, as part of the Associate Dean's mission to move the library services out to patrons, this position will be one of the key drivers of outreach to students, building on existing successes and finding ways to continue to intervene and support students how and when they need the unique services of the library.
Qualifications • M.L.S. and J.D. (or equivalent) from accredited institutions are required. • A minimum of five years of library or related experience is required. Academic law library experience is strongly preferred. • Significant management and supervisor experience is strongly preferred. • Demonstrated success in legal research instruction and dedication to student learning, especially in a formal classroom setting, is strongly preferred. • Superior organizational, planning and administrative skills including the ability to work effectively on the broad picture as well as on the detail level. • Demonstrated success in bringing a concept or an idea to successful implementation is preferred. • Ability to take initiative and solve problems in an environment of collaboration and accountability.
