Faulkner University’s Thomas Goode Jones School of Law Library is seeking a qualified individual to serve as the Assistant Director of Technical Services & Research Librarian. This individual will report directly to the Associate Dean for Information Resources and directly supervises the Technical Services Librarian while indirectly supervising several student employees. This position is responsible for managing the Faulkner Law Library’s Technical Services Department, as well as participating in the delivery of some public services to library patrons.
This is a full-time, non-tenure, 12-month faculty position. This position is funded. Review of applications will begin immediately until the successful candidate is found.Employment is conditional upon a satisfactory background check and verification of work authorization through E-Verify.
The Assistant Director of Technical Services & Research Librarian is responsible for the following:
Responsible for the ordering, receipt, and processing of all library collection materials and all related tasks, including the proper cataloging of all items in the collection;
Manage the administration of the Law Library’s online catalog and integrated library system (SirsiDynix), as well as acquisitions, cataloging, and processing of materials;
Participate in the management of the Law Library’s collection budget
Maintain accurate data, statistics, and reports;
Develop and maintain written policies and procedures pertinent to the operation and management of the Technical Services Department;
May participate in teaching the basic legal research component of the first-year Legal Research & Writing course, and may teach Advanced Legal Research;
Provide additional legal research instruction, as needed to support the curricular needs and the educational mission of the law school.
Juris Doctor degree from ABA-accredited law school;
Master of Library and Information Science (or equivalent) from ALA-accredited school of library and/or information science;
At least two (2) years of professional experience in an academic law library; and
Public service experience in an academic law school setting;
Knowledge of cataloging principles, including the use of RDA and MARC, as well as knowledge of emerging technologies in integrated cataloging systems;
Knowledge of a wide range of library and information resources, systems, and services, as well as knowledge of legal publishing trends; and
Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships.
Additional Salary Information: Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
