Taft is seeking a Knowledge and Research Analyst to join our Knowledge & Research Services (KaRS) team in Cleveland.
This firm-wide role will help provide high-quality legal and competitive business information to clients as well as assist in developing and maintaining the Knowledge & Research Services department’s technology applications, print and online resource collections, current awareness services and knowledge management initiatives. The Knowledge & Research Analyst will join our Knowledge & Research Services (KaRS) team in our Cleveland, Ohio office with occasional visits to our Columbus, Ohio office.
Perform firm-wide legal, corporate and competitive intelligence research and provide information, analysis and expertise to attorneys, marketing team and staff in all practice areas via a team approach.
Use question and answer skills to conduct effective research/reference interviews.
Analyze and synthesize legal, corporate and general information and communicate research findings in a clear and concise manner.
Help plan and implement KaRS department outreach, training and orientation programs.
Assist with the evaluation and recommendation of new information resources.
Support research and Knowledge Management initiatives for attorneys and staff and assist with rolling out new technology.
Create and maintain new business alert services that identify matters of interest to existing and potential clients.
Work independently and with the KaRS team and selected practice areas to choose, collect, organize, maintain and update content for print collections, websites and online subscription databases.
Provide attorneys with access to and encourage the effective use of internal and external knowledge resources.
Disseminate knowledge resources via intranet and databases to attorneys.
Establish relationships with attorneys to promote awareness of KaRS initiatives and to solicit their participation.
Use workflow software for the distribution and recording of research requests.
Continue professional development through various firm and association sponsored activities.
Strong technology skills; experience in using computer-based research tools including but not limited to: Lexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg, West Practical Law, WoltersKluwer Cheetah, Lex Machina and PACER Docket Service.
Proficient in relevant firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) with the ability to learn new software and operating systems.
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and strong written and oral communication skills.
SharePoint web page editors experience is a plus.
Master's degree in Library & Information Science from an accredited graduate program required.
Two to three years of experience working in a law library or corporate library setting is strongly preferred.
