JOB SUMMARY: Serves as chief-of-staff for the Global Chair of the Corporate Department, comprising 5 practice areas across 4 offices globally. Oversees the day-to-day administration and management of the Corporate Department.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Chair of the Corporate Department. Interacts daily with attorneys in the Corporate Department and other Firm administrators.
Collaborate on cross-functional strategic initiatives and ensure alignment of resources. Work cooperatively with other Directors to drive initiatives across Departments and ensure consistency of approach.
Monitor and assist, as required, with implementation of Practice Group and Individual Partner business plans.
Monitor market trends and current research in order to make strategic and best practice recommendations regarding approaches and programs for talent development and retention, and organizational improvement.
Support Practice Group Heads in resource planning and building high performing, diverse teams.
Lead interim and annual performance evaluation and review process for associates and special counsel. Collect feedback, convene and participate in partner meetings to review files and determine message; draft review messages and performance summaries.
Facilitate professional development and career progression of associates and special counsel. Monitor development to ensure progression along the desired trajectory and follow-up on any development plans. Recommend the firm’s career resources as appropriate, and ensure forward progress on exit plans.
In collaboration with the Practice Group and Professional Development team, design and implement professional growth and training programs.
Review utilization rates to ensure associates are fully utilized; flag and address performance issues.
Work with Practice Group Heads to identify special counsel and partner promotion candidates; draft candidate support memos.
Manage Associate and Special Counsel compensation process for the Corporate Department.
Work closely with Attorney Recruitment on all staffing needs. Conduct department orientation and facilitate integration of new attorneys.
Facilitate Corporate associate client secondments; coordinate with Attorney Resources as necessary.
Serve as liaison between department leadership and attorneys, to ensure effective group communications.
Act as point person to facilitate problem-solving, addressing any issues or attorney concerns.
Prepare talking points for Global Chair’s monthly Department update and draft other communications as required.
Organize and create agendas for department and practice group meetings.
Communicate practice group activities, successes, needs and goals to encourage collaboration across groups and offices.
Collaborate with administrative departments to ensure that Department’s operational needs are met. Design and implement effective solutions as required.
Provide overall management of 15 legal assistants, including staffing and performance management
Provide oversight and management of department expenditures.
Facilitate all infrastructure requirements.
Education: JD and/or MBA
Required Experience: 8+ years’ experience at a top-tier professional organization and excellent written communication skills. Prior law firm experience in practice management, professional development, or firm management and a solid understanding of the legal industry and law firm economics preferred.
