Environment: The Jerome Hall Law Library is located in the Maurer School of Law on the Bloomington campus of Indiana University. It is an autonomous unit within the University Library system and is an integral part of the Maurer School of Law. The Law School has a full-time faculty of 60, a student body of over 650 and supports LL.M, M.C.L., S.J.D. M.S. and Ph.D. programs in addition to the J.D. curriculum. The Law Library provides access to an extensive collection of print and electronic legal materials including over 480,000 print volumes. The Library is also a selective depository for U.S. government documents. The Library employs ten professional librarians, seven full-time support staff, one professional staff member, and 25-30 hourly assistants. Job Description: Under the direction of the Dean of the Maurer School of Law, the Director of the Law Library administers the Law Library and is responsible for its operation as a major teaching and research facility. The Director provides innovative leadership to library staff, manages a complex budget, and executes a forward-thinking vision for the Library. In addition, the Director also serves as a member of the Dean’s leadership team.
Qualifications: J.D. Degree from an ABA-accredited law school; Master’s Degree from an ALA accredited library school or a degree in Information Science; and substantial experience in law library administration. Knowledge of current and developing legal information technologies. Ability to interact well with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and other users and members of the university community is essential. Must qualify for tenure track appointment within IU Library system.
Appointment: The Director holds a tenure track appointment within the IU Library system as well as a faculty appointment in the Maurer School of Law; rank and salary commensurate with the candidate’s background, qualifications and experience.
