O'Melveny had an immediate opening for a File Release Attorney based out of our Los Angeles office.
This position is responsible for the management and administration of the release of client files to other parties and working with the Records team to prepare policies for other information governance activities. File release responsibilities include the coordination of the release process, supervision and training of staff members on the release process, document review and coordination with other support departments to perform the release function. Other responsibilities include working with the Records team to institute policies for document retention, destruction and digitization along with working on the implementation of technology to perform these functions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage the workflow processes for the file release function
Coordinate with attorneys and staff members involved in the file release process
Supervise records personnel and other staff members in performing file release processes
Provide training to personnel involved in the file release process
Perform review of documents for the release process
Communicate with departing attorneys, clients and outside counsel regarding the release process
Work with the Director of Information Services and the Records team to develop and implement policies and processes for information governance issues, such as retention, destruction, and digitization of records
Work with the Director of information Services, Records team, IT and Practice Support to implement technology for file releases and information governance processes.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Four years’ experience in a large legal environment, including experience working with legal records
JD degree required
Supervisory experience preferred
Strong command of records and information governance principles and requirements and the ability to ensure that policies and procedures are being followed
Ability to work with all levels of attorneys and staff and have strong customer service orientation and excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to work with clients and outside counsel in a professional and efficient manner
Ability to work under tight time constraints, work overtime as needed and be able to re-prioritize work as needed
High degree of interest in learning and utilizing new technology in daily work functions
Self-motivated, detail oriented and able to make judgment calls
