Columbia Law School is seeking a transformational leader for the position of Law Library Director. The Arthur W. Diamond Law Library is one of the finest and most comprehensive collections of legal materials in the world in both digital and print formats, consisting of more than 1.1 million volumes and volume equivalents. In addition to an extensive United States Law collection, the Law Library holds a premier collection in International, Foreign and Comparative Law, with one of the largest collections of Japanese Law materials found outside of Japan. The Law Library provides academic research, teaching of legal research, and public services and acts as a focal point in the intellectual life at the Law School for diverse populations of legal scholars, students, and members of the Columbia University community.

To achieve these objectives, the Director must possess an ability to: think strategically and creatively about service delivery, collection development, budget management, and library programming; communicate effectively with staff and diverse constituencies; demonstrate a commitment to providing high-quality research services to student and faculty; build and sustain collaborative partnerships with Columbia University Libraries and with external networks; foster and motivate a culture of professionalism and one that supports staff development.
The Director will report to the Dean of the Law School on all matters related to the intellectual life of the Law Library, and will work closely with the Chief Financial and Strategy Officer in regards to finance and operations.
Required: Demonstrated managerial or supervisory experience; strong communication and interpersonal skills; familiarity with innovative and emerging legal research methods including the use of quantitative data sets; and demonstrated commitment to assessment and the use of both quantitative and qualitative analytics in decision making.
Preferred: At least 10 years of relevant experience with demonstrated progressive responsibility.
Education: Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school or equivalent in education and experience required; Master of Library Science, Master of Information Science, Ph.D. or other advanced degree preferred.
